See the Story
A brief history
of how we got from there to here.
1992
A group of churches came together to open a youth centre at 48 Peter St.
1998
Seeing great need in the community, the youth centre transformed into a 14-bed men’s shelter and soup kitchen. It was officially named Orillia Christian Centre.
2014
The vision for a new shelter for men, women and youth came to life and Building Hope was born.
2020
In the midst of the Covid pandemic 48 Peter St closed, we moved men to a local hotel and opened a women’s shelter at the hotel.
2021
Grand opening of 75 Queen Street East!
The Lighthouse Community Services and Supportive Housing opened it’s doors with 50 beds for men, women and youth, a cafe and 20 housing units to assist people facing chronic homelessness.
